I wanted to talk to you about this important subject – eating seasonal food – why, how and how really important is it?
Depending on where in the world you live the food that grows can be quite different. It all changes from a season to season and can be confusing to figure out what really is seasonal at this time. My point for making this list is to show and teach You what is in season at the moment and to try to eat more in balance with your location and time. Here is what I mean by that:
Green salads grow in summer and have cooling effect, same as most fresh fruit. Their job is to keep you hydrated during hot summer days, they are light, cooling and fresh. However, eating baked sweet potatoes is perfect for winter months! Because they grow around winter time, they are warm and hearty, will keep you satisfied for longer and are grounding.
If you eat a salad on a cold winter day and wonder why you don`t feel grounded and are cold all day – it might be because you`re not eating according to your location and season! Here in New York we have 4 seasons so eating watermelon in January does not make a lot of sense for me. Of course, if I was in Hawaii right now I would be munching down papaya but not here.
Next time you are at a grocery store, print and take this list with you – it will help you understand what really is available in nature at the moment and eating these foods will make you more balanced.
As always, I LOVE to hear from you so please click ‘reply’ and tell me about yourself. Are you eating foods according to seasons, do you feel grounded or are you always cold in winter?
