Here are 5 simple ways to eat healthy starting today. Even if you have failed before, these steps are easy to follow and will help you reach your goals sooner. So, here’s how to get started:
Start your day with a glass of lemon water
This is probably the easiest thing you can start doing towards your health. After sleeping 6-9 hours our body is dehydrated and starting your day with a large glass of water with a wedge of lemon will kick start your metabolism and flush out the toxins. Most of us don’t drink enough water during the day and if you are starting a health journey this is your number one goal. Drink. More. Water. As simple as that. Drink a glass after you wake up; drink a glass before every meal. Drink a glass before going to bed. If you think water tastes plain then add some fresh peppermint, or maybe some raspberries or orange slices and always carry a bottle of water with you.
Also, make sure you drink lots throughout the day. I always carry this with me and make sure I drink as much as possible.
Eat more raw foods
We all could eat more vegetables, especially raw vegetables. Of course, eating cooked veggies is better than eating no veggies at all but raw foods contain more vitamins and nutrients. Heat also destroys some of the nutrients so eating raw fruits and veggies is the preferred method. If you think raw fruits and veggies are a bit boring, try spiralizing or cutting into fun shapes. Have a plan
Always know your meals in advance because preparation is the key to success. Cooking dinner tonight? Make extra for lunch tomorrow. Going to the grocery store? Always buy enough produce for next couple of days (or week).
Pick one day (ex. Sunday) and create a list of dinner recipes for the upcoming week (which will be leftovers for lunch the next day), and then create a grocery shopping list. I do this every week and it helps me stay organized and know exactly how much to buy at the supermarket.
If you often happen to be on the move, take some simple snacks with you, these are my favorite treats on-the-go.
Forget about calories
Counting calories won’t get you far and will only limit your choices. Also, not all calories can be treated the same. For example, a 100-calorie cookie bag is NOT the same as an apple that has the same amount of calories. Focus on nutrition rather than calories and you will notice a big change. When craving something sweet, opt for a dark chocolate rather than a sugar cookie. When choosing a salad dressing, opt for olive oil and lemon juice instead of creamy dressing like ranch.
Spice It Up
Eating the same foods can get quite boring so get creative and try to eat something new. Try different cuisines, new dishes that you have never tried before and see if you can spot something new at your local grocery store! How does quinoa sushi sound to you? Or zucchini noodles with creamy avocado dressing? You’ve never tried maca before?
I recently found an amazing spice company Just Spices who use organic ingredients and their spice blends are amazing! Use ‘justieva’ to get 10% off your next order!
